As expected after Amari Cooper’s trade the day before, the Dallas Cowboys made sure to retain the services of Michael Gallup.
According to ESPN, the two sides agreed to a new five-year pact worth $62.5 million. In particular, there would be a $10 million signing bonus.
On Saturday, the Cowboys traded receiver Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. The transaction cannot be formalized before the start of the next NFL year, on Wednesday. With this move, the Cowboys have freed up $16 million on their payroll.
Gallup was expected to become a free agent, but he had previously made it known he hoped to return with the team that drafted him in 2018. He suffered a torn ligament in his left knee in January. He could be in his post next September.
During his career, the 26-year-old Gallup had 2,902 yards and 15 touchdowns.
