NFL suspends Calvin Ridley for at least one year for betting on games

In the United States they do not beat around the bush when someone violates the laws or established norms and to show the case of Calvin Ridley, star wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, who has been suspended by the NFL for a year -at least- after proving its relationship with a system of bets in league matches.

According to the statement issued by Roger Goodell, who is the high commissioner of the National Football League, Calvin Ridley’s illicit activities occurred over a span of five days in November 2021just a few days after the player himself announced his temporary retirement to supposedly attend to his mental health.

‘You put the most sacred thing in the NFL at risk’

The same league investigation determined that there was no evidence that the integrity and honesty of the outcome of any 2021 Season game was manipulated or altered by these actions, which will leave Calvin Ridley out of the 2022 Season and subject to an even greater penalty of disqualification.

“There is nothing more fundamental to the success of the NFL, and to the reputation of everyone associated with our league, than maintaining the integrity of the game. This is the responsibility of every player, coach, owner, official and employee of National Football League. Your actions put the integrity of our sport at riskthreatened to damage the reputation of all of us in it,” says the letter sent by Goodell to the catcher who graduated from the University of Alabama and was selected in the first round of the Draft NFL of 2018.

“For decades, betting on NFL games has been considered one of the highest violations of the league’s policies, which deserves a corresponding sanction. In your case, I appreciate that you have been honest in the investigation and recognized your actions,” he adds. the letter to Ridley, who can appeal this suspension in the next three days.

With this determination, Calvin Ridley will be away from any activity related to the gridirons -not even attending meetings or training- during the entire calendar year of the 2022 Season, being eligible for reinstatement until February 15, 2023.
