NFL: Tyrann Mathieu would be heading for autonomy

In all likelihood, Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu will be free as air on March 16, when the NFL free agent market opens.

On Sunday, the NFL Network reported that the 29-year-old athlete was not the Missouri organization’s priority. That doesn’t mean he won’t be back with the Chiefs, but it looks like the team will allow him to test his worth with the other clubs in the Goodell Circuit.

Kansas City currently benefits from $11.5 million on its payroll, according to the specialized website sportrac.com. The Chiefs, however, reportedly intend to offer wide receiver Tyreek Hill a new deal, which will inevitably have an impact on the money available to other footballers.

Mathieu has worn the Chiefs uniform since the 2019 campaign, he who previously played for the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans. In 47 games with Kansas City, he had 213 tackles, 13 interceptions and two touchdowns. The LSU product received two Pro Bowl invites and was named to the NFL First Team All-Star as many times in three campaigns with the Chiefs.
