Travis Scott is probably one of the most successful rappers of recent years and has also influenced the street fashion industry with his outfits and his own designs.

After starting his collaboration with Nike in December 2017, he was quickly seen as the “rival” of Kanye West, who had long worked successfully with adidas.

Since then, Scott has created many shoes, adding his own unique style and nods to his native Texas. So does this Nike Air Trainer 1, which was spotted on the feet of rapper Sheck Wes in November.

The Nike Air Trainer 1 is a 1987 model and was designed by Tinker Hatfield because he saw the need for a sneaker that could be worn both in the gym and on the court.

He created the first cross-training shoe and set a milestone in the history of sneakers. The Nike Air Trainer 1 has a distinctive look, is equipped with Air technology and is suitable for a wide range of sports.

The shoe has a higher cut at the ankle, a raised heel and a locking band at the front of the foot, which provides support and stability. In the 1980s, the Nike Air Trainer 1 was considered a tennis shoe and quickly achieved great success because it was worn by tennis player John McEnroe, for example.

Travis Scott’s extreme popularity also helped him quickly become a fashion success. Before he began working with Nike, he had already designed two pairs of shoes with the Helmut Lang brand in 2017.

He soon founded his label “Cactus Jack” and started selling his own clothes and releasing shoes together with Nike. The first model of this collaboration series was an Air Force 1 Low.

Many more classic Nike silhouettes followed. The shoes are always strictly limited and sold out in a few seconds, only to then be sold in resellers for large sums.

In November 2021, the Astroworld festival organized by Travis Scott took place in Houston. The day before he was spotted with his colleagues, including Sheck Wes, on the “Cactus Jack Foundation – Celebrity Softball Game”.

They wore some baseball cleats variants of the Travis Scott Nike models: Nike x Travis Scott Air Max 1,

and also the Nike Air Trainer 1 in the baseball version. This design had already been seen on Scott’s feet in some paparazzi photos, but the in-game photos provided a first clear look at the model.

On the forefoot strap of the sneaker and on the heel you can see the Cactus Corporation logo, which is known from other models.

The Nike Swoosh drawn backwards, which Travis Scott uses on many of his shoes, is also featured here. The shoe’s upper seems to be made out of a mix of synthetics, textiles and leather.

The pair Wes wore in the game features spikes, which of course won’t be on the final shoe. The colourway of the sneaker is called “Coriander/Ashen Slate/Wheat/Light Sienna”.

The colors are very muted and the appearance is characterized by earth tones such as dark brown, khaki, light brown and various shades of grey.

There are black elements on the toe box and the heel as well as a small pocket with a zipper. The sole is brown and beige and is made of rubber.

A special feature of this Travis Scott x Nike Air Trainer 1 are the snaps, which can be clearly seen on the upper. A beige cover made of a kind of ripstop can probably be attached to it, which gives the sneaker a completely different look. The model comes with brown rope laces.

This look fits perfectly with the actual design intention behind the Nike Air Trainer 1, as it was created to be worn in nature and on the court as well as in the gym. According to reports, the sneaker will appear in another colourway, which contains different shades of gray and is generally a bit lighter.

It remains to be mentioned that the said Astroworld Festival began one day after this performance and ended with a mass panic that same evening.

As a result, a collaboration between Nike and Travis Scott was postponed out of respect for the victims. A Nike Air Max 1 in collaboration with Cactus Jack should be released in December 2021.
