Nuremberg defeated HSV thanks to a late goal

IIn a fast-paced and hard-fought top game, 1. FC Nürnberg defeated Hamburger SV 2-1 (1-1) in the 2nd Bundesliga. Full-back Tim Handwerker scored the club’s winning goal in the 88th minute of the game with his weaker right foot. In front of 25,000 spectators in the sold-out Max Morlock Stadium, Pascal Köpke scored for Franconia (15th minute) and Ludovit Reis (25th) for HSV.

“We’re really happy,” said FCN trainer Robert Klauß after the third win in a row at Sport1: “The win was important because we beat a top team. We want to take everything we can get with us.” Nuremberg overtook HSV (41) with 42 points and, fourth in the table, are back in the fight for promotion. “It’s annoying that we lose through such a filthy goal,” said HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, who didn’t cut a good figure when craftsmen landed in the far corner.

The game started intensely. Both teams tried to get powerful in front of the opposing goal. Nuremberg’s Taylan Duman tried it from a distance. Attacker Köpke pushed the ball just past the goal after a cross from Kilian Fischer. At the other end, Giorgi Chakvetadze was unable to get past FCN goalkeeper Christian Mathenia and Asger Sörensen, who together put things right.

A short time later, Nuremberg cheered: After a great dribbling by Fabian Nürnberger, Hamburg’s Mario Vuskovic was only able to defend the cross with a tackle – Köpke switched the fastest on the ground and pushed in to give the “Club” the lead.

But the jubilation in the stadium was short-lived. Bakery Jatta prevailed for the dominant Hamburgers on the right wing, put it back to Reis, who finished flat into the left corner. In the second half, the level of the hard-fought game flattened out. But she remained gripping. Handwerker forced a shot by Daniel Heuer Fernandes to defend with a fist (58th). The next time the defender tried, the HSV goalkeeper couldn’t get the ball.
