The Millionaires’ Estate: A Legacy Up for Grabs
For generations of Colombian football fans, the name “The Millionaires’ Estate” evokes powerful memories. This sprawling property, situated on the North Highway just outside Bogotá, served as the longtime headquarters of the iconic Albiazul club. However, legal battles and financial woes ultimately led to its seizure and eventual sale.
Recently, a “For Sale” sign went up, signaling a new chapter for this historic site. Journalist José Gabriel Celis shared the news on Twitter, highlighting the immense potential of the 109,188 square meter lot.
This development comes over a decade after the National Narcotics Directorate transferred partial ownership of the land back to Los Millonarios Sports Club in 2010. Back then, the property’s value was estimated at 21,921,172,200 pesos. Today, according to Mundo Millos, that figure has skyrocketed to a staggering 113,272,314,760 pesos, reflecting the important appreciation of real estate in the area.
The auction of this prime piece of land presents a unique opportunity for investors. However, the proceeds won’t directly benefit the current incarnation of the Millionaires club. Instead, the funds will be used to settle years of accumulated debts owed to various creditors, including the Colombian government, former coaches, and players like Héctor Burguez. These individuals, who filed lawsuits for unpaid wages and benefits, are hoping that the sale will finaly bring them financial relief.
The sale of The Millionaires’ Estate marks the end of an era for one of Colombia’s most beloved football clubs. While the team has moved on to a new home, the legacy of this iconic property will continue to resonate with fans for years to come.
