“Olimp” / “Venta 2002” won the sixth match of “Optibet” Latvian Hockey League (OHL) semi-final in Riga on Monday, winning 4-2 in a series of up to four victories.

The current champion “Olimp” / “Venta 2002” in the third period in the match against “Mogo” / LSPA played a two-goal deficit, celebrating the victory in the extension with 4: 3 (0: 0, 1: 0, 2: 2).
Richard Grinberg scored the first goal of the match in the 33rd minute, taking the lead. But then in the third period, four goals were scored in seven and a half minutes.
First Deivids Sarkanis reached 2: 0 at the end of the 49th minute, but already 25 seconds later Juris Ziemiņš regained one goal, and in the 54th minute Edijs Brahmanis equalized the result – 2: 2.
At the beginning of the 57th minute, Kārlis Ozoliņš finished the goal-scoring shock cycle, reaching 3: 2 “Mogo” / LSPA. However, the home side replaced the goalkeeper and Brahmanis scored 3: 3 33 seconds before the end of regular time.
The overtime took six minutes and 35 seconds to determine the winner. Reinis Mārtiņš Lejnieks beat the goalkeeper Jānis Vori with a shot from the right side, the puck touching Kārlis Ozoliņš’s stick on the way – 4: 3.
Rūdolfs Gusts Lazdiņš repelled 37 out of 40 shots, but Voris handled 22 out of 26 shots.
In the second semi-final series between “Liepājas” and “Zemgale” / LLU with Jelgava are 3-2.
The fight for the OHL Champions Cup will start on April 3. The final will also have up to four victories.
The OHL “play-offs” included the top four teams in the tournament. The season has already ended for the remaining three units – Hockey School “Riga”, Daugavpils “Dinaburga” and Riga “Prizma”.
Last season, the OHL winners’ cup was won by “Olimp” / “Venta 2002”, but in the regular season the victory was celebrated by “Zemgale” / LLU.
The first Latvian hockey championship took place 90 years ago.
