Indian para-commuter Sukant Kadam has reached world number one. 2nd in the SL 4 category following his exploits on the international circuit over the past three months. Kadam had won gold medals at the Uganda International Para Badminton Tournament, National Para Badminton Tournament and the recently concluded Spanish International Para Badminton Championship II.
“I’m really excited to become world number 2, I’ve trained really hard to get here, but this is just the start of my journey. Right now my goal is to perform and give my best in this tournament. This is an important year and I would like to continue playing at this high level,” Kadam said in a statement.
The Indian kicked off his Spanish Para-Badminton International 2022 Grade I tournament on Thursday with an easy 21-13 21-11 victory over Germany’s Marcel Adam.
He had already beaten Adam in straight sets at the Spanish Para badminton II international last week to clinch the gold.
In the rankings table, Kadam is behind Frenchman Lucas Mazur, who is currently the world number one. 1 in the SL 4 category.
