Paris wants the Champions League at all costs: “PSG has a culture of excuses all the time”

On Wednesday, PSG face Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League. After the 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes, the Parisians cannot miss each other and must qualify for the quarter-finals. But they didn’t prepare for the match in the best possible way, losing ingloriously to Nice in Ligue 1 on Saturday. A few days after the victory against Madrid in the first leg, PSG had already lost to Nantes.

The Champions Club has come back to these repeated defeats before and after the Champions League matches. According to our consultants, this is one of the aspects that still shows the gap between the Parisian club and the European tenors: “At PSG, we are constantly in the culture of excuses. They can do anything before and after Champions League matches. They can do bad results because they will be champions anyway. But I think that does not participate in creating an institution”says our consultant Alex Teklak.

“Paris’ big concern is its irregularity”thinks Jonathan Lange, “the club is going to have to put more emphasis on it.”

With a 13-point lead in Ligue 1, however, PSG’s title is not in danger and everyone knows that the club’s most important objective is the Champions League. This is therefore to the detriment of the championship…
