On October 27, 2018, in Paris, Pauline Déroulède’s life changed forever. While stationary on her scooter on a sidewalk, she was struck by a car driven by a 90-year-old motorist. “I was thrown 50 meters onto the cobblestones, my helmet torn off in the impact. People rushed to help, applying a tourniquet and stopping me from moving. I felt the severity of the situation immediately—my leg was gone.
