After a losing start to the week, Centro Sportivo Peñarol returned to winning ways after beating Olimpia de Paraná 86-76 at El Gigante. The figures were Reynoso (18) and Cerone (16).
The match played in the city of Rosario del Tala started with a remarkable performance by Mauro Cerone, who became strong from mid-range shots and scored the first ten points at home, to quickly take an advantage on the scoreboard. Next, the good appearance of Damián Echazarreta marked the trend of the match in favor of Peñarol. During the visit, the game went through Lisandro Ruiz Moreno, in charge of leading and armed the attack. In addition, the points generated by Facundo Carulla prevented Olimpia from allowing the gap to widen too much. For the final minutes, with a very offensive Peñarol, after the intense one-on-one defense, they made the first quarter in their favor by 27 to 22.
With the second quarter underway, Olimpia presented a different idea of the game, with Ruiz Moreno being its fundamental pillar in attack, converting from the perimeter and quickly putting his team in contention for the leadership of the game. The changes in the venue to counteract the good moment of the Paranaenses kept the difference for a long time, but a triple by Lucas Azoge before the end of possession put Olimpia ahead for the first time that night. With a lot of ball mobility and long-distance shots, the visitors went into the break winning 45 40.
For the complement, the same five from Peñarol who started the match came out determined to reverse the situation, with more seasoned attacks, using complete possession of the ball. With four minutes to go, the locals were able to retake control of the game by 54-52. The participation of Galligani and Echazarreta made the best version of the host look like, with conversions from triples, doubles and from the free throw line to take the score in their favor. To culminate a third quarter to remember, Bautista Solda’s final bomb put things 68-55, being the maximum difference of the match.
In the last set, those led by Mariano Panizza had the difficult task of closing the match in front of their audience. For that, the points contributed by Nicolás Reynoso were fundamental, who after an unfortunate blow had to be replaced. The points from Bros and Monti, added to the play by Galligani, Solda and Cerone, made the stadium vibrate against Olimpia who, despite their record all over the pitch, could not reverse what Peñarol had done, which without too many over jumps, he took the match 86–76.
