Joey Veerman threatens to become the child of the bill at PSV, Kenneth Perez notes. According to the ESPN analyst, trainer Roger Schmidt will bench the star in the Conference League game against FC Copenhagen.
The return of Cody Gakpo leaves Schmidt with a luxury problem. Veerman has made a big impression on the left in recent weeks, while PSV’s midfield – with Erick Gutiérrez, Ibrahim Sangaré and Mario Götze – is rock solid. “I think Veerman is the loser (against FC Copenhagen, ed.)”, Perez said to Dit Was Het Weekend.
Perez is not on the same page as Schmidt, by the way. “Schmidt finds balance and reliability very important, but I also find Veerman very reliable on the ball. You can see what he brings in terms of fun, brains and smarts.”
According to the Dane, Schmidt should therefore dismantle the Gutiérrez-Sangaré tandem ‘nine times out of ten’ in favor of Veerman. “I think Sangaré has also come to believe what is being said: He can actually play much better than we thought and he is going to England for a hundred million euros† But he does a lot of crazy things.”
