PGA: Lahiri leader before darkness

The fourth day of the PGA Players Championship concluded on Sunday with an unusual leader: the Indian Anirban Lahiri.

After several weather obstacles in the first three days of activities, the competitors could not finish the third round due to darkness. Some had to complete the second round before starting this one. Action will resume on Monday.

Lahiri’s day thus ended after the 11th hole, after a spectacular start. The latter slashed four shots to par during this sequence, now leading the tournament narrowly, with a score of -9 after 140 shots.

Behind him are Americans Tom Hoge and Harold Varner III, trailing with a cumulative score of -8. Hoge, who was leading the event on Saturday, could only complete the front nine, scoring two birdies and a bogey.

The same goes for Varner III, who took two shots off par after a hectic day, punctuated by two bogeys.

Three players tied for fourth place, Colombian Sebastian Munoz, Englishman Paul Casey and American Sam Burns, all at -7.

Shane Lowry for his part made a hole in one at the 17th pennant.

Pendrith et Conners persistent

Five Canadians took part in this fourth day of competition. The two highest-ranked Maple Leaf representatives in this tournament, Taylor Pendrith and Corey Conners, both had tough days. They are provisionally tied for 18th place.

Pendrith made up for a rough start to the day with back-to-back birdies at the eighth and ninth flags. Three times he needed an extra shot to wedge the ball in the hole, thus falling back to -4.

Conners was able to keep his composure after a disastrous double-bogey from the first flag, but imitated his compatriot by adding a blow to his record.

Adam Hadwin (45th) is the other representative of the maple leaf still on the list. Roger Sloan and Mackenzie Hughes could not escape the cut.
