PGA: Tiger Woods’ participation in the Masters Tournament would be “phenomenal” according to McIlroy

As the golfing world anxiously waits to find out if Tiger Woods will play in the Masters next week, at the Augusta National Golf Club, one of his competitors admitted that his turnout would be “phenomenal”.

“I think for golf, for the Masters and for everyone, having Tiger on the course would be phenomenal,” Rory McIlroy admitted to reporters in San Antonio, where he is to compete in the Valero Open in Texas. .

“I think it’s added value to the tournament. It would be incredible for him to be present for the Masters Tournament. »

A four-time major champion, McIlroy was in Augusta on Tuesday when Woods played a full 18-hole round with his son Charlie, as well as friend and PGA member Justin Thomas.

“He was there on Tuesday and obviously he’s trying to see what he can offer on the pitch. Obviously he’s the only one who knows if he can play and if he can be competitive,” added McIlroy.

Woods hasn’t played in a PGA Tour since November 2020, when he was defending his Masters Tournament title. He finished 38th after a 76 card in the final round.

Woods has won the Masters Tournament five times and his name is still among the 91 entrants. He has still not confirmed his presence.

It wouldn’t be the first time Woods has attempted a return to play at the Augusta National after a long absence. After multiple knee and back surgeries, Woods won the 2019 edition, a first major win in 11 years.

His participation next week, on the other hand, would be most impressive. Woods suffered serious injuries to his right leg and right foot after a car accident on February 23, 2021.
