The favored Pogačar climbed Monte Carpegna in the second climb and kept the lead to the finish line. His closest pursuers Vingegaard and Landa lost more than a minute to him after 215 kilometers. The second Belgian Remco Evenepoel, who was not good enough for the best and dropped out of the elite ten, fared even worse.
The race ends on Sunday’s flat stage around San Benedetto del Tronto, which measures 159 km.
