Clutch Shooting and gritty Defense: Dissecting Porteño’s Overtime Thriller with Coach Eduardo “Lobo” Perez

Welcome back, hoops fans,to another jam-packed edition of “Courtside Chats.” Today, we’re joined by a Buenos Aires basketball legend, Coach Eduardo “Lobo” Perez, fresh off his team, Porteño’s nail-biting overtime victory against Huracán de San Justo. Coach Perez, thanks for joining us.

Eduardo Perez: It’s a pleasure to be here. It was a hard-fought battle out there, that’s for sure.

Moderator: Absolutely! That first half belonged to Huracán, their three-point shooting was fiery. What adjustments did you make defensively to cool them off in the third quarter?

Eduardo Perez: Huracán came out guns blazing, and credit to them, they shot lights out early on. We decided to switch to a 2-3 zone defense in the third quarter. It clogged the lane, forced them to take tougher shots, and disrupted their offensive rhythm. Most importantly, it gave our guys a chance to catch their breath and refocus.

Moderator:

That strategic shift was definitely pivotal. And offensively, what was the key in getting Porteño’s three-pointers to finally start falling?

Eduardo Perez: We had some good looks in the first half, but they just weren’t dropping. We kept emphasizing to our guys to keep shooting with confidence. Eventually, they started finding their range.

Dameli hitting that big three in overtime was huge. It showed the kind of clutch playmaking we expect from him.

Eduardo Perez: In those pressure cooker moments,it’s all about maintaining composure and trusting in your fundamentals. We work on free throws relentlessly in practice. It’s about staying focused, breathing, and executing your routine. Every single point counts, especially in a game like this.

Moderator: You guys showed incredible resilience, battling back from a deficit and never giving up. What does that kind of grit say about the character of this Porteño team?

Eduardo Perez: This team has heart, plain and simple. They never back down from a challenge. They fight for every loose ball, every possession. Every player on that court left it all out there, and that’s what I’m most proud of.

moderator:

Well-deserved victory, Coach. Now, looking ahead, you moved up to fourth place in the West zone. What are Porteño’s goals for the rest of the season?

We’re not satisfied with just making the playoffs. Our sights are set on a championship. This win was a big step in the right direction, but we have to stay hungry, keep working hard, and continue to improve as a team. Every game is a chance to get better, and we’re going to treat it that way.
