It’s arguably one of the most emotional goals of his career…
Former BVB star Andrej Yarmolenko (32) scored a goal in West Ham’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon – the Ukrainian striker then bursts into tears!
Goose bumps moment in the 70th minute: Yarmolenko, who came on as a substitute shortly after the half-time break to the cheers of the crowd, converted Benrahma’s pass to make it 1-0. He immediately raises his arms to the heavens, sinks to his knees, covers his face in his hands and sheds bitter tears. Yarmolenko’s teammates stand by him, gathering around him. Even the opposing players applaud.

It was the attacker’s first game after being sidelined over Putin’s offensive war on Ukraine. Yarmolenko grew up in the city of Chernihiv and has won 106 caps for his country so far.
“It was so emotional for me because of the situation in my country. It’s so hard to think about football right now. The Russian army is killing people in Ukraine every day,” Yarmolenko, who was voted player of the game, tells Sky Sports. “To be honest, I don’t know what to say. I want to thank my team, who always support me. I felt the support of the fans, I wanted to give my all on the field.”
And he did!
