What are your thoughts on this situation?
Faustino Asprilla: Look,Teo is a fiery player,always full of passion. We all know that. But provoking fans is simply unacceptable. It undermines the spirit of the game and creates unnecessary tension.
I understand Caicedo’s frustration, but claiming a targeted campaign seems a bit far-fetched to me. Disciplinary action needs to be firm and consistent, regardless of which team or player is involved. If Teo crossed the line, he has to face the consequences.
Speaking of consistency, Caicedo also raised concerns about refereeing standards in Colombia, specifically mentioning Imer Machado, the head of the referees’ commission. He even called for a complete overhaul of the refereeing structure.
Do you think ther’s merit to these criticisms?
Faustino Asprilla: I’ve always said that referees have a tough job. They’re under immense pressure and often face criticism from all sides. But honest and consistent officiating is crucial for the integrity of the game.
If Caicedo has concrete evidence of bias or misconduct, he should present it to the authorities. Accusations alone won’t solve anything.
But let’s be honest, refereeing isn’t perfect anywhere in the world.mistakes are made. But I believe that if there are genuine issues with the officiating system in Colombia, they need to be addressed through proper channels, not through public outbursts.
This whole situation raises some engaging questions about the balance between passion and discipline in football. How do you think we can strike a better balance?
Faustino Asprilla: Passion is a great thing. It drives us, pushes us to compete. But it shouldn’t come at the expense of fair play and respect for the game.We need to teach young players to channel their passion in a positive way, to express themselves on the field without resorting to bad behavior.
And it’s not just the players; coaches and club officials need to set the right example.
We need to foster a culture of respect within the game, from the players on the pitch to the fans in the stands.
