PSS Sleman’s BRI Liga 1 Journey: aiming for a Top-Ten Finish
PSS Sleman concluded the fourth series of the BRI Liga 1 with a scoreless draw against PSM Makassar on March 2nd, 2022, at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Stadium. This result, coupled with their performance throughout the 11-match series, yielded 3 victories,2 draws, and 6 defeats, accumulating 11 points for the Javanese Eagles.
Combining these points with their first-round tally (Series 1-3), PSS Sleman currently sits in 11th place in the BRI Liga 1 2021 standings with a record of 8 wins, 8 draws, and 12 losses, totaling 32 points.
With six matches remaining in Series 5,also hosted in Bali,PSS Sleman has the potential to earn an additional 18 points. However, the path ahead won’t be easy for Coach I Putu Gede’s squad.
The remaining six matches pit PSS Sleman against a mix of formidable opponents. They will face four teams currently ranked higher: Bhayangkara FC, persita Tangerang, PSIS Semarang, and persija Jakarta. Additionally, they will encounter two teams currently battling relegation: Persipura Jayapura and Persela Lamongan.Reflecting on the first round, PSS Sleman secured a victory only against PSIS Semarang. They drew against Bhayangkara FC, Persela Lamongan, and Persija Jakarta, while suffering defeats against Persipura and Persita Tangerang.
Based on these results, PSS Sleman could realistically aim for 6 points from the remaining matches. This projection aligns with their second-round performance in Series 4, where they achieved a win rate of approximately 30%, a draw rate of 20%, and a loss rate of 50%.If PSS Sleman manages to accumulate these additional points, their total would rise to 38. This could perhaps propel them up to two positions in the standings, securing a coveted top-ten finish.
Can PSS Sleman Soar into the Top 10? Let’s Analyze With Former Indonesian National Team Forward, Bambang Pamungkas
Welcome back, football fans! Today, we’re diving deep into the BRI Liga 1 standings with a focus on PSS Sleman’s journey. Joining me to dissect their performance and prospects is none other than the legendary Bambang “Bepe” Pamungkas, former Indonesian National Team forward and liga 1 icon.
Bepe, thanks for joining us. PSS Sleman sits in 11th place with 32 points. They’ve shown flashes of brilliance, but consistency has been a challenge. What’s your take on their overall performance so far?
Bambang Pamungkas: “It’s been a rollercoaster season for PSS Sleman. They’ve had some notable victories, but they’ve also struggled to find their rhythm consistently. The league is incredibly competitive, and any team can beat another on their day.I think they’ve shown glimpses of their potential, but they need to find a way to be more consistent if they want to climb the ladder.”
They’ve got six matches left in Series 5, a crucial stretch that could perhaps determine their final position.Looking at their remaining opponents, which matches do you think pose the biggest challenge, and which are more winnable?
Bambang Pamungkas: “That’s a great question. The matches against Bhayangkara FC, Persija Jakarta, and PSIS Semarang will be incredibly tough. These teams are all fighting for higher positions, so PSS Sleman will have to be at their absolute best if they want to secure points. However, I also think they have a good chance against Persela Lamongan and Persipura Jayapura, who are both battling relegation. If Coach Putu Gede can motivate his players and come up with a solid game plan, I see PSS Sleman picking up crucial points in those games.”
Do you agree with the assessment that a top-ten finish is achievable for PSS Sleman?
Bambang Pamungkas: “It’s definitely within reach. If they can manage to win at least two of their remaining six matches and draw a couple more, they have a good shot at breaking into the top ten. It won’t be easy, but they’ve shown they have the talent. It’s all about mental toughness and executing their game plan effectively in the crucial remaining matches.”
What advice would you give Coach Putu Gede to help PSS Sleman achieve a top-ten finish?
Bambang Pamungkas: “I would emphasize the importance of maintaining focus and consistency. They need to approach each match with the same level of intensity and determination, regardless of their opponent. Also, rotating the squad strategically might be beneficial. keeping players fresh and energized is crucial, especially with the condensed schedule of the BRI Liga 1.
