Rafael Nadal is one of the great absences at the Miami Open 2022

Bad news for tennis fans in South Florida. Rafael Nadal is one of the absentees for the 2022 edition of the Miami Open, tournament director James Blake announced.

“We will certainly miss Rafa. He has so many fans here in South Florida and we look forward to seeing him back in Miami next year,” said Blake at the time of making public the surprise decision of the current number four in the world.

In this way, Nadal joins Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the group of stars who do not participate in the second Masters 1000 tournament of the 2022 ATP season.

The 35-year-old, a five-time Miami Open runner-up, set a record of 40 wins and 12 losses when the event was played at Crandon Park Tennis Center in Key Biscayne.
