Real Madrid Extends LaLiga Lead as Sevilla Stumbles
Real Madrid solidified their dominance in the 2021-2022 LaLiga season, widening the gap between themselves and second-place Sevilla.
The Spanish giants secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on March 6th, 2022. This triumph, fueled by goals from Eduardo Camavinga, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema, and Marco Asensio, propelled Real Madrid to 63 points, a comfortable eight-point lead over sevilla.
Real sociedad initially took the lead through a penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal in the 10th minute. Though, Real Madrid’s relentless attack quickly turned the tide, showcasing their offensive prowess and determination.
Meanwhile, Sevilla’s hopes of closing the gap were dashed as they were held to a goalless draw against Alaves on March 5th.This stalemate left them stranded on 55 points, further solidifying Real Madrid’s position at the summit.
Barcelona Eyes Top Three Spot
The race for the top three spots in LaLiga is heating up,with Barcelona poised to capitalize on Sevilla’s slip-up. Currently sitting in fourth place with 45 points, Barcelona trails third-place Real Betis by a single point.

Real MadridS Dominance: A Championship in Sight?
Welcome back, sports fans! This week we have a truly insightful guest joining us to dissect the latest developments in the thrilling world of laliga. Please give a warm welcome to former Spanish international and Real Madrid legend, Michel Salgado!
Michel, thank you for joining us. With Real Madrid extending their lead at the top of the table, many are calling this their year. Do you agree?
Michel: It’s certainly looking good for Los Blancos. The 4-1 win over Real Sociedad was a statement of intent. Their attacking prowess is undeniable, and the depth of their squad is extraordinary. However, ther’s still a long way to go, and LaLiga is known for its twists and turns.
You mentioned the depth of the squad, and that brings me to Eden Hazard. His absence has been felt by many, but Real Madrid seems to be managing just fine without him. Do you think his return will be crucial for a potential title win?
Michel: Hazard’s undoubtedly a world-class talent, and his creativity would be a massive asset to any team. But, Real Madrid has adapted remarkably well to his absence.Players like Vinicius Jr. have stepped up, and the midfield trio of Modric, Kroos, and Casemiro is simply masterful.
While Real Madrid enjoys their lead, the race for the top three is anything but settled. Barcelona is hot on Sevilla’s heels, and Atletico madrid can’t be discounted. What do you make of this three-way battle?
Michel: It’s going to be a nail-biter! Barcelona is showing signs of their old self, and Xavi is proving to be a shrewd tactician. Atletico Madrid, under Simeone, is always dangerous, and their defensive solidity could cause problems for both Barcelona and Sevilla. It’s a battle that will go down to the wire.
Let’s talk about Sevilla. They stumbled this weekend against Alaves, missing a golden chance to close the gap. Do you think their hopes of catching Real Madrid are fading?
Michel: Sevilla’s draw was disappointing, but they are a resilient team. Lopetegui has done a fantastic job with them. They’ll need to bounce back quickly and string together a series of wins if they want to challenge Real Madrid.
Michel, looking ahead to the remaining weeks of the season, what are your predictions? Who will lift the LaLiga trophy?
Michel: real Madrid is in the driver’s seat, but it’s far from over. Sevilla and Barcelona will push them all the way. It’ll be a thrilling climax to the season, and I wouldn’t want to put my money on anyone just yet.
Thank you, Michel, for sharing your insightful analysis with us. What a captivating season it’s shaping up to be!
