You still have boxes of cards Pokémon hidden in a drawer? Bring them out! These could be worth gold. The proof is with this “Illustrator” Pikachu card in very good condition (rated 7/10) and dating from 1998 which has just found a happy buyer. The collector indeed bought it for the modest sum of… 900,000 dollarsa little over 800,000 euros, at an auction organized by the company Goldin Auctions.
A historical record
Published in only 40 copies worldwide, this extremely rare card has therefore officially become the most expensive in history! When the copy was first auctioned in early February, the base price was set at $75,000.
And this phenomenon should only increase. While the first versions of the Pokémon video game celebrated their 26th birthday on February 27, the resale prices of certain cards will continue to reach peaks.“Sacred No. 1 in collectible cards, ahead of basketball and baseball cards, sales of Pokémon cards have exploded by more than 574% between 2019 and 2020”assured the eBay platform last year.
As a reminder, the previous record was held by another Pikachu card “Illustrator” sold for $375,000 in 2019. So you know what you have to do!
