Regatas de San Nicolás beat Somisa and remained undefeated

In the nicoleños duel, Regatas beat Somisa 97-84 with a tremendous effort by Alejandro Mena (30 points), to prevail as the undefeated leader of the Federal League’s Region 1 Division.

After a good start for the locals, who escaped 7-3, with Repetti’s dominance in the internal zone, Somisa settled into the game, got harder in defense, and with a 6-0 run, he turned it around . Calderón and Cruz provided air in attack and Dentis imposed his presence, against a Regatas that had a hard time attacking the visiting zone, which won the first quarter 31-26.

The second ten minutes had more intensity, with the appearance of Mena, who became very important in the low post (nine points) and the good entry of Nicolás Rodríguez. With them on court there was a 9-0 run that allowed the locals to go on to win 39-38. However, Somisa responded with a tremendous burst, with an unstoppable Cruz (4-6 in doubles and 11 in free), well accompanied by Calderón, to make a difference of eight (53-45). On top of that, due to the second unsportsmanlike foul in the game, Regatas lost López, a key driver, and Somisa, more solid and consistent, highly effective from the perimeter and an unbalanced Cruz, went into the long break up 56-47.

In the third set, all the good things done by Somisa fell apart, with a Regatas who left the zone to go on to defend individually, something that brought him very good results. He totally took the visitor out of the game, who went three minutes without converting, and with a huge Mena, built a 9-0 run to turn the game around. In his best moment of the night, passing the ball with intelligence and distributing the game, Regatas escaped 71-59, but Somisa was rescued by five consecutive points from Cruz, and the local entered the fourth quarter leading 71-64.

Already at the start of the defining fourth, with a double by Zandomeni, the visit went to a triple (71-68). But Regatas went back to concentrating on defense, taking advantage of a great night by Mena and Noguera’s good contribution from the bench, to take definitive control of the game. Somisa, already without Dentis since the third quarter, was pure impotence and never found the game, against an overwhelming Regatas, playing at a very good level, which escaped 97-81. With authority, a compact game and reacting at the right time, those led by Pablo Dastugue won 97-84.

Mena was the great figure of the game (30 points, 12-17 in doubles, 6-6 in free throws and nine rebounds), well accompanied by Patricio Rodríguez (13 points and seven rebounds). Somisa was not matched by Cruz’s 25 (4-6 in doubles, 2-5 in triples, 11-11 in free throws, 4 rebounds).

Next Friday the city will dress up as a party, since Regatas will have to go to preserve its undefeated record against the classic rival of all time, Belgrano, in what will undoubtedly be the most important challenge for the yachtsmen.
