The competition is reserved between the youngest and youngest categories and will display a total of 13 sports modalities
The city of Reus will host the 40th edition of the School Olympiad in its return to attendance, after two editions marked by the pandemic: that of 2020, which was experienced since confinement, and that of 2021, with activities and a format adapted to the epidemiological situation.
The 40th edition was presented this Thursday at an event at the Casal de las Mujeres and will take place from March 14 to April 1. In this act, in addition to the novelties in the programming, the winning poster of the new edition was presented.
The 2022 School Olympiad will display a total of 13 sports: hockey 3, mini-basketball, soccer 7, Catalan bowling, futsal, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, chess, swimming, badminton, table tennis and this year’s novelties with rhythms and dances, which will coincide with the closing ceremony, and paddle tennis. The competition is reserved for the youngest and youngest categories.
The main novelty of this edition, apart from the new sports that have been incorporated, is to consolidate the Cultural Olympiad, after the good reception it received last year, and this year 5th grade students have been offered to participate. This part of the Olympiad will be held over nine mornings in the municipal Olympic pavilion from March 16 to 31, in which the class groups will be able to carry out two tests collectively and a question and answer test of a sporting nature, promoting thus teamwork.
Of the 18 posters that have been submitted to the poster contest for the students of six Baix Camp schools, this year the winner was Paula Pàmies Gómez, from the Padre Manyanet school in Reus.
During the presentation, the Councilor for Sports of the Reus City Council, Pep Cuerba, highlighted «the recovery of the format and spirit with which this sporting event has always been distinguished at the school level. A spirit that encompasses a series of positive values and attitudes towards the competition».
The main challenge of the 2022 School Olympiad is to return to pre-pandemic enrollment figures and expand, year after year, the number of participating schools.
The Olympic flame will travel through the streets of the city again to light the cauldron at the opening ceremony to be held in the Olympic Pavilion on Friday, March 18, 2022.
