Riccione’s judo Star: Morgana De Paoli Dominates National Stage
Sixteen-year-old Morgana De Paoli continues to solidify her position as a rising star in Italian judo. At the recent national under-18 finals held in Ostia lido, De Paoli secured her fourth consecutive italian title in the +70 kg category, further cementing her status as the most accomplished judoka the Rimini province has ever produced.
De Paoli’s dominance was evident throughout the competition. She dispatched all four opponents with decisive ippons, showcasing her technical prowess and unwavering determination. This victory adds to her impressive resume, which already includes four gold medals and a silver medal at the under-18 level, as well as a silver medal at the under-21 level, narrowly missing a call-up to the European Championships last year.
despite her impressive performance, De Paoli’s coach, Maestro Giuseppe Longo, believes she has yet to reach her full potential. “We are pleased with the result, but Morgana was not at her peak form,” Longo explained.”This year, we have set enterprising goals, and her training plan is just beginning.Balancing her demanding academic schedule at the prestigious Karis classical high school with her rigorous training regimen is a testament to her dedication.”
Looking ahead, De Paoli and her team are eager to make their mark on the European circuit. After limited participation last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, they are poised for a strong showing in upcoming competitions. Their first test will be a European Cup race in Zagreb next weekend, where De Paoli will face stiff competition from athletes across the continent.
De Paoli’s success has also brought recognition to her club, Polisportiva Riccione. Their impressive performance at the national finals propelled them to fifth place in the women’s company rankings at the national level and first place at the regional level, tying with CUS Parma. Furthermore,Polisportiva Riccione secured a remarkable 51st place in the overall national rankings for 2021,placing them among the top 100 sports clubs in Italy and solidifying their position as the leading club in Romagna.”Morgana’s achievements are a source of immense pride for our club,” stated Giuseppe Solfrini, president of Polisportiva Riccione. “We are grateful to her, the entire technical staff, and Maestro Longo for their unwavering commitment, especially considering the logistical challenges we face. As our Judo section approaches its 10th anniversary in October, we hope to celebrate this milestone in a fitting manner.”
