Canada, a powerful left-handed hitter, passed away at his Philadelphia home at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy of thrilling plays and unwavering dedication to the sport. [[1]]

Canada’s journey in professional baseball began in 1966 when he was drafted by the Los Angeles dodgers. He climbed through their minor league ranks, showcasing his talent and determination. His career took him to the Montreal Expos before he landed in Mexico, first with the Saraperos de Saltillo in 1972 and then with Unión Laguna in 1974.

It didn’t take long for Canada to become a fan favorite in Laguna.his consistent performance, maintaining a batting average above.300 in each of his four seasons with the team, solidified his place as one of the best left-handed hitters in the Mexican League. He smashed 79 home runs during his time with Unión Laguna, securing his position as the second highest foreign home run hitter in franchise history.

The 1970s were a golden era for Unión Laguna, with Canada at the heart of their success. The team reached the Final Series in both 1974 and 1976, though they ultimately fell to the Red devils of Mexico on both occasions. Canada’s contributions were undeniable,including a legendary home run during the 1974 playoffs against Saltillo at the Rosa laguna stadium. Some fans still claim that the ball from that monumental hit has yet to land.

Adding to his legacy, Canada played in each of Unión Laguna’s home stadiums during his tenure. From Gómez Palacio in 1974 to the Revolution baseball stadium in 1975 and finally the Superior stadium, affectionately known as “Mecano,” from 1976 onwards, Canada’s power and charisma shone brightly in every ballpark.
