Markus Gisdol no longer coaching at a Russian club, Moscow locomotive. The German coach resigned in protest at Russia’s military aggression which led to the war in Ukraine.

“For me, being a football coach is the best job in the world. But I can’t live that dream job in a country whose leader is responsible for war through aggression in Europe,” he told image.

“Such things are not in line with my values, which is why I have resigned from my position as coach of Lokomotiv Moscow.”

“I can no longer stand being in a training center in Moscow, coaching players, demanding professionalism, and a few kilometers from where I am an order is being given and it is bringing misery to a lot of people.”

“This is my personal decision and I fully believe (it was the right decision),” Gisdol said as quoted by Eurosport.

Lokomotiv Moscow confirmed Gisdol is no longer coaching at the club although he has a slightly different statement. Eurosport said Lokomotiv Moscow’s official website said Gisdol had been “removed” and Marvin Komper had been appointed interim coach.
