The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) announced on Wednesday that it was ending Russia’s activities in the organization.
Unlike other sports organizations, the IBSF announced a week later after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that it would withdraw Russia’s membership indefinitely. “In order to keep athletes safe, it has been decided, at the request of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to withdraw the membership of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation,” the IBSF said in a statement. “The IBSF fully supports the IOC’s recommendations for athletes and officials in Russia and Belarus.”
It has already been reported that the IOC on Monday called on international sports federations to exclude Russian and Belarusian athletes from the competition. It is also mentioned that the decision of the IBSF is to be adopted until the next congress, which will be convened in July this year.
