Schalke: reward for defense chief – the national team is calling

At the end of March, Marcin Kaminski will travel to the Polish national team. The FC Schalke 04 professional found out on Monday.

In mid-February, RevierSport reported that Marcin Kaminski was back in the focus of the Polish national team. At the home game against SC Paderborn, the new Polish national coach Czeslaw Michniewicz sat in the arena’s stands.

Apparently the central defender has convinced the national coach. Because on Monday the 30-year-old was nominated for the March games of Poland. The World Cup playoffs are here. Poland were originally scheduled to play Russia in Moscow on March 24th. But the game was canceled because Fifa had excluded the Russians from the competition after the war of aggression against Ukraine. It remains to be seen how the further playoff procedure with the participation of the Poles will proceed.

In any case, for Kaminski it is a return to the national team after around three and a half years. The Schalke defender last played for Polish Kadra on November 18, 2018. In general, he has only played seven international matches, all in friendly matches.

The Polish central defense is made up of Kamil Glik (Benevento Calcio, Serie B) and Jan Bednarek (FC Southampton, Premier League). Behind it, Coach Michniewicz is looking for alternatives. And that’s the big chance for Kaminski. At Schalke, he has successfully applied again for the national team with consistently good performances in league two.

“He’s a solid player and has a good left foot. We don’t have a left-footed centre-back. That could be an advantage for Kaminski. It would also be good for Schalke if Kaminski were called up for Poland. I know that as a national player you can still extra motivation for the performances in the club,” ex-Schalke professional and Poland expert Tomasz Hajto told RevierSport a few weeks ago. Now Kaminski has the invitation in his pocket.
