The twenty-third round of the women’s Serie A1 basketball started tonight, with the advance between Empoli and Schio. On the field the Tuscans, desperate for salvation points, and the Venetians, still unbeaten, but returning from the painful knockout of Prague in the Euroleague and looking for redemption on the parquet of the Tuscan team. Here’s how it went.
Good start from Empoli, who with a triple from Rembiszewska moves quickly to 5-0, but Schio is not surprised and it is Mestdagh who impacts the result from a distance after two minutes of play. The partial for the guests is extended up to 0-9, when Baldelli from beyond the arch brings back under Empoli. Great balance on the Tuscan parquet and if Mestdagh still tries the extension with the +9, here in the last 150 seconds it is Empoli who dictates the law. Rembiszewska, Baldelli and Williams report under the landlords, who on the siren they find the triple with Bocchetti for 21-21.
At the beginning of the second quarter the Empoli partial stretches further, which between the two periods has scored a fantastic 11-0, and it is Crippa from beyond the arc to unblock Schio. We fight point to point, Jeune and Laksa challenge each other from three points, the Tuscans stretch up to +4, but Laksa still punishes them from distance and a Verona basket 90 seconds from half time sets the score at 34-37 with which you go to rest, with several shooting errors in the end of the first half.
The two teams’ empty pass also continues at the start of the second half, with the first points arriving after another 90 seconds, from the line. The first basket from the field is by Keys on 2 ‘of the third quarter and Schio who tries to run away on +6. Empoli does not give up, returning immediately below, even if after the first quarter the two teams struggle so much to find the way to the basket, with low percentages and a score that does not take off. André is unblocked, who in the last two minutes scores a personal partial of 6-0 and then Verona’s basket arrives and Schio goes to the last stop ahead 47-56.
Rembiszewska tries to reopen the games from beyond the arc, but Mestdagh responds immediately and Schio maintains a good lead at the beginning of the last quarter. Again Mestdagh gives +10 to the Venetians who stretch even before the triple by Rembiszewska, the last to raise the white flag in the Tuscan house. Run away definitively via Schio in the final, with the score that punishes Empoli too much, which sees the match close 54-72. Top scorer Laksa, with 16 points, followed by Mestdagh with 15 and André with 12, while at Empoli there are 11 points from Rembiszewska and 10 from Bocchetti and Williams.
