Ex-champion Bayern Munich has won the next home win in the basketball Bundesliga, but had to cope with a shock for his player Nick Weiler-Babb. The 26-year-old fell heavily on his head after trying to dunk in the second quarter of the 86-75 win against the Hamburg Towers and had to be treated for several minutes.
In the evening, the Munich team gave the all-clear: Fortunately, examinations in the hospital did not result in a fracture in the head area, but rather a severe concussion, as the club announced on its website.
Trinchieri: “We are very concerned”
At first it wasn’t clear how bad the combo guard’s injury was. “We’re very concerned. It could be dramatic,” said coach Andrea Trinchieri after the game, clearly touched. “The first news from the hospital is okay, not good but okay. We’ll wait and see what happens.”
Weiler-Babb remained unconscious on the ground after his fall. Folders shielded the doctors’ treatment with towels for onlookers. A few minutes after the incident, Bayern informed MagentaSport that the American was conscious again.
Munich was in shock after the accident and was well behind at the break. A strong comeback in the second section finally brought the fourth home win in a row.
