Last season, the Latvian U-18 boys’ team, led by Marc Obrumanis, proved to be a strong and ready-to-fight team, gaining historical success – 8th place in the U-17 age group final of the European Championship. Regarding this year’s Group C draw, the coach says that there is no reason to complain about the opponents, but the Greek team has not been seen in action yet.
Secretary General of the Latvian Volleyball Federation Arnis Tunte said that high hopes are placed on these juniors: “We are pleased to have won the right to organize this qualifying tournament for the U-18 national team in Sigulda. Thank you very much “The first international volleyball competition in history in Sigulda and we hope to delight Sigulda residents with a good level of volleyball and memorable, positive emotions. Given the success of last season, I think this team is capable of great things, so I invite everyone to support Sigulda Sports Center.” Tunte also mentions that it is important to take such tournaments to spectators and supporters outside Riga in order to inspire the youngest volleyball players and show that with proper training you can be very successful.
In the 3-day tournament, the teams will meet with each other to find out who will win the ticket to the final tournament, which will take place in Georgia from July 9 to 17.
It should be noted that the group had 4 teams, from which Belarus was excluded due to its support in the Russian war against the Ukrainian people.
