The two youngsters were not blessed with luck when they were drawn against the Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah as their first-round opponents. Cabal and Farah have been one of the best doubles on the tour for years: they are currently ninth in the doubles world rankings, but in 2019 they were already leading after two Grand Slam victories.
Despite the great strength of the opponent, Sinner and Korda put up a good fight: the 20-year-old from South Tyrol and the 21-year-old from the USA, who played a tournament together for the second time, had to bow 6:7 and 2:6. A match that seems clear at first glance, but was actually very close.

The underdogs could have won the first set – almost had to. They were up by a break but gave it up just as they were serving for the period. A little later it went into the tie-break, in which Sinner/Korda had a set ball available but did not use it. Instead, the Colombians decided the game 10:8 in their favor.

Korda and Sinner did not recover from this blow to the neck. In the second set, they offered their opponents at least one break chance in every service game, eventually leading to the 7-6, 6-2 final score. So Korda, after giving up a 5-2 lead against Rafael Nadal in the decisive set in singles, was also eliminated in doubles. Sinner, on the other hand, is still in the running in the individual, on Tuesday at around 2 a.m. (CET) he will meet Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (ATP 62) in the third round.
