After competing in the national final of the 70 Years and Over category, six Sonoran players were called to represent Mexico in the Pan American Basketball Championship to be held in Argentina from March 18 to 26.
Although originally the team of Chihuahua would be the Mexican representative in the tournament, this was reinforced with three elements from Hermosillo, two from Nogales and one from Agua Prieta to complete their 12-player squad.
The hermosillenses FRancisco Vega (71 years old), Jesús Pedro Barrón (71) and Francisco Armenta (81); the nogalenses Austoberto Tona (70) and Victor Manuel Rojo (69)besides the aguapretense Armando Fragoso (72) were chosen to attend the tournament based in Parana, Entre Rios.
The rest of the campus is made up of Chihuahuans Javier Segura (69 years old), Luis Guadalupe Escobero (71), Francisco Bruno Domínguez (81), Salvador Antonio Pérez (70), Armando Díaz (69) and Armando Venzor (71)as well as the coach Efren Quiroz.
In the event, this Mexican team will have to compete against representatives of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chilewith a view to becoming the best on the continent in the category for 70-year-old players.
