Soria Basketball Club Aims for a perfect Weekend

The Soria Basketball Club is gearing up for a jam-packed weekend of competition, with seven of it’s youth teams taking to the court in pursuit of victory. This ambitious goal will be tested as several teams face tough opponents on the road.

Challenging Away Games

This Saturday, the Infantil B and Cadet B teams will travel to Burgos to face the formidable Maristas de burgos squad. the Infantil B team, coached by Víctor Sanz and Rubén Sanz, is currently riding a four-game winning streak and a win against Maristas would solidify their position in the top four. They previously defeated Maristas at home, but securing a victory on the road will be a critically important challenge.

simultaneously occurring, the Women’s Cadet and Women’s Infantil teams will also be in action on Saturday, traveling to Aranda de Duero to face Juventud Aranda and Juventud gerardo de la Calle, respectively. The Women’s Youth team, led by alberto González, currently sits in fourth place with a 2-2 record in 2022.

Home Court Advantage

On Sunday, the San Andrés Sports center will host three crucial matches. Infantil A, Junior A, and Cadet A, all currently in the top four, will battle for a chance to qualify for the prestigious Castilla y León Cup. Julio Pérez’s infantil A team has only suffered two losses this year, while Fernando Flores’ Junior A team boasts an impressive 11 wins in 12 games.

Cadet A, coached by Jesús María Soto, is already virtually crowned champion, showcasing their dominance throughout the season.

A New Beginning for the Alevín Team

Adding to the excitement, the Soria Basketball Club’s newest team, the alevín, will play their first amiable match on Sunday. This marks a significant milestone for the club,which has never before fielded a team in this category. The Alevín team, coached by Gonzalo de Domingo, a burgos player currently competing in the Men’s First Division for transler, will face Basket Pisones de Burgos. Their official debut in the Autonomous Championship of Mini basketball is scheduled for March 26th in Valladolid.

Welcome back, basketball fans! Today we have a very special guest joining us, the legendary coach josé “Pepe” Martínez, who led the Soria senior team to its only championship title back in 2005. Coach Martínez, thanks for being here!

José Martínez: It’s my pleasure. Always happy to talk Soria hoops!

Host: This weekend is shaping up to be one of the most important in recent memory for the Soria Basketball Club. With seven youth teams competing, there’s a lot riding on these games. what are your initial thoughts?

José Martínez: I’m incredibly excited. This club has always been about nurturing young talent, and it’s heartwarming to see so many teams, notably the younger ones, performing at such a high level. It speaks volumes about the dedication of the coaches and the players.

Host: Absolutely! The Infantil B and Cadet B teams are kicking things off on Saturday with tough away games against the Maristas de Burgos. This will be a real test for these young athletes.

José Martínez: You’re right. burgos is always a tough place to play. These are crucial away games, and playing in a unfriendly habitat can teach these young players valuable lessons about resilience and pressure.

Host: The Women’s teams are also facing strong opponents on Saturday. Does playing away games present a unique set of challenges for young female athletes?

José Martínez: I believe it does. Historically, women’s sports haven’t always received the same level of support as men’s, and sometimes that can be reflected in crowd behavior. It’s important for these young women to stay focused and remember their training, using any negativity as fuel for their determination.

Host: excellent point, Coach. Shifting gears to Sunday, there’s a real buzz around the three teams competing at the San Andrés Sports Center.

José Martínez: absolutely. The Infantil A, junior A, and Cadet A teams are all in prime position to qualify for the prestigious Castilla y León Cup. This is a fantastic achievement for the club.

Host: Indeed,cadet A is practically champion already,which speaks volumes about their dominance this season. Do you see them making a deep run in the Castilla y León Cup?

José martínez: I don’t see why not. They have a well-balanced team, excellent coaching, and a winning mentality. If they can maintain their focus and avoid complacency, they have a real shot at the Cup.

Host: And what about the Alevín team? This is a groundbreaking moment for the club, fielding its first-ever team in this category.

José Martínez: This is truly special. Having a team in the Alevín category shows the club’s commitment to nurturing talent from a very young age. I’m excited to see how they develop under coach Gonzalo’s guidance.
