Sparta’s Stoljarov Suspended Three Games for Illegal Check

Disciplinary Action Taken Against Sparta Prague Player

A Sparta Prague player, 35-year-old Moscow native Stoljarov, has been handed a suspension following a controversial on-ice incident. The disciplinary committee, chaired by viktor Ujčík, reviewed video footage of the incident adn determined that Stoljarov’s actions warranted a penalty. The incident occurred during the third period of a match, where Stoljarov intervened in a duel between two opposing players. While Ujčík acknowledged that the intervention wasn’t executed at high speed and Stoljarov didn’t separate his hands from his body, he emphasized that the player violated a fundamental principle of the game: ensuring the safety of opponents.

Ujčík explained that Stoljarov, acting as a “third man” in the duel, made contact with an opponent’s head, a dangerous move that could have resulted in serious injury. This type of reckless play, even if unintentional, is unacceptable in professional hockey.

As a consequence of his actions, Stoljarov will miss Sparta Prague’s upcoming matches against Zlín, Karlovy Vary, and the Rams. He is eligible to return to the ice for Sparta’s final regular season game against Kladno on Tuesday.

In other disciplinary news, Petr Fridrich of Vítkovice and Ondřej Beránek of Karlovy Vary were each fined ten percent of their monthly salary for separate incidents involving unsportsmanlike conduct.
