Stan Wawrinka will compete again in Monte Carlo 2022 with ambition

Tennis, like life, moves so fast that, sometimes, we forget figures who were fundamental too soon. This is what will have happened to many fans with Stan Wawrinka, a player who seemed doomed to retirement after more than a year without competing and having been weighed down by injuries for a long time. That serious problem in one of his knees that left him off the slopes for a long time and plunged him into a real ordeal was the starting point for the troubles of the great scourge of the Big 4 in recent years. Stan hasn’t won titles since 2017 and his best times seem far away, but he was able to compete with honor and enjoy tennis in 2018, 2019 and 2020. In a chat with L’Equipe, he talks about his feelings and announces the return of him.

Wawrinka has nothing to prove at 36 years old and could end his career with nothing to blame. However, a powerful and supreme strength has led him to overcome a serious Achilles tendon injury, which forced him to undergo surgery, and make a titanic effort during the rehabilitation process to give himself another chance. “I still have that inner fire that drives me to play tennis, train hard and suffer. As long as I have that I will continue to play. I feel that I have not closed this chapter of my life and that I still have things to do on the tour. having fun in recent years and if injuries respect me, I know I can still do important things”, assured a man who will compete in Roland Garros 2022a tournament that he wants to reach at a competitive pace, so his reappearance will take place in the ATP Masters 1000 Montecarlo 2022.

Wawrinka wants to have fun again with what he is most passionate about in the world

“I return to feel like a tennis player again and to be able to retire on the courts, but that does not mean that I am going to leave it at the end of this season. I have made a great effort to leave it six months after returning, so my desire is to rediscover those emotions that I have felt for years with the competition. I love this sport and I still have a tremendous passion for it. Sometimes we forget that we are tennis players because we love to play, many professionals see tennis as a job and sometimes you have to to return to being those children who wanted to play for the mere fact of having fun. It motivates me a lot to enjoy this sport again”, he assured Stan Wawrinkawinner of 16 titles and who aspires to recover, at least, that version of the game that allowed him to be a finalist in Rotterdam and Antwerp during 2019.
