“Stars of Sport” 2022 – German Judo Federation

For the first time, sports clubs can collect money for their volunteering idea via crowdfunding before they apply. This is done via the “Many create more” crowdfunding platform provided by the cooperative financial network. In this way, clubs benefit in two ways with their idea: They gain increased public visibility, regardless of how far they get in the competition, and they use crowdfunding to quickly, digitally and easily collect financial resources that they previously lacked to implement their initiative. However, crowdfunding is not a prerequisite for a successful application.

Between April 1st and June 30th, 2022, every sports club can submit its implemented initiatives – including in the areas of education and qualifications, volunteering, health and prevention, equality, integration and inclusion or climate, nature and environmental protection, digitization or recruiting members – apply to the participating Volksbanks or Raiffeisenbanks for the 2022 competition round. If the submission is made after July 1, 2022, the application will be included in the 2023 competition round.

Participating banks can be found at www.sterne-des-sports.deClubs that do not have a participating bank in their area can also apply here.

Marija Kolak, President of the Association of German Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken (BVR): “The crowdfunding approach is not only future-oriented, but is also derived from our cooperative principle ‘What one cannot do alone, many can do’. We are pleased to be able to offer clubs this additional opportunity together with our specialist for digital content, VR-NetWorld. Sports clubs make an important contribution to the cohesion of local people in our society.”

DOSB President Thomas Weikert: “The commitment of sports clubs in Germany is diverse and impressive, as has been shown in the past few years of the pandemic. The ‘stars of sport’ honor this commitment in a very special way. The fact that from this year sports clubs will also have the opportunity to implement and submit ideas via the crowdfunding platform is a great development.”

Recognition and appreciation at the highest level

Since 2004, the Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken, together with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), have successfully advertised the “Stars of Sports” competition. Since then, the participating sports clubs have received more than 7.5 million euros to promote their social commitment.

The “Stars of Sports” competition comprises three levels: At the local level, the winner receives the “Big Star of Sports” in bronze, awarded by the Volksbank or Raiffeisenbank as well as the district and city sports association of the respective region. The winner qualifies for the finals at state level. At the award ceremony for the “Big Star of Sports” in silver, which is organized by the state sports associations and the regional cooperative associations, the sports clubs compete for the ticket to the national final of the “Stars of Sports” in gold in 2022. At the national final at the beginning of the year in Berlin, in Annual alternation of the Federal Chancellor or the Federal President, the finalists are awarded the “Stars of Sports” in gold for their social commitment and the nationwide first place winner with the “Big Star of Sports” in gold.
