Sukant Kadam confident of winning a medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris

After missing out on the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, India’s top Para commuter Sukant Kadam hopes a training stint abroad will prove beneficial for the upcoming tournaments and the Paris 2024 Games. The world number 5 player in the SL4 category added that he would leave no stone unturned to win a medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris.

Basel 2019 World Championships bronze medalist Kadam is currently in Cartagena, Spain, which will also host Spain’s para-badminton international – a Tier 1 tournament – from March 8.

“Of course, a medal comes from Paris. But first, I’m aiming for the Asian Games and the World Championships. Before these two events, I will start my international circuit events with the Spanish tournament. I am here for the training as well as for the events too. It will help me gain momentum for other tournaments,” Sukant Kadam told IANS from Spain.

The Maharashtra commuter ace said he came to Spain to train and acclimatize to European weather and terrain.

“The weather and pitch conditions in Paris are similar to those in Spain and training and adapting to the European style of play, learning new skills and tactics will ultimately help me for the quadrangular event,” said said Kadam, who admires India’s top commuter Saina Nehwal for her fight. spirit.

The gold medalist of the National Para-Badminton Championships in Bhubaneswar has however not yet managed to qualify for the Paris Games, but he is confident enough to qualify.

Asked what went wrong for the Tokyo Paralympics, the 28-year-old said he wouldn’t think much about the past.

“I don’t think too much about the past. But yes, I will make sure the same mistakes won’t happen again. I am focused on my goal and as I said my ultimate goal is to win a medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris,” said the gold medal winner at the Uganda International Tournament.

“I am quite confident that I will arrive in Paris. It will be a dream come true to play in Paris and if I can win a medal, I’m sure it will be special for me as well as for my country,” he said.
