Tadej Pogacar also wins Tirreno-Adriatico

Dhe Bocholt professional cyclist Phil Bauhaus won the last stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico long-distance trip. The 27-year-old from Team Bahrain Victorious won the sprint in San Benedetto del Tronto after 159 km just ahead of the Italian Giacomo Nizzolo, it was the 18th triumph of his career.

In the overall standings, the two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar (Slovenia) repeated his triumph from the previous year – and thus set an exclamation point at the start of the season. After victories at the UAE Tour and the spring classic Strade Bianche, Pogacar has now won every race he has contested this year.

“I always believed I could win. I’m in good shape and my team was fantastic today. I saw the gap on the right side and just tried,” said Bauhaus, who put the win on a par with his successes at the Dauphine (2017) and the Tour of Poland last year.

Pogacar had already made a preliminary decision on Saturday. On Monte Carpegna, one of the favorite climbs of Italy’s deceased cycling legend Pantani, the 23-year-old managed the second stage win after an impressive solo. In the final classification, Pogacar was 1:52 minutes ahead of the Dane Jonas Vingegaard.
