They still exist, the real role models!
British tennis player Andy Murray (34) has announced that he will donate his entire prize money for the rest of the tennis year to Unicef for children in Ukraine! No matter what successes he will celebrate on the pitch. Experts assume that the donation has a conservative value of at least 640,000 euros!
The money is to be used to buy medicines and so-called learning sets for younger children suffering from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “I do my part, but anyone can support Unicef’s work. The children of Ukraine need peace and they need it now,” says Unicef Ambassador Murray, who has raked in €55 million in prize money throughout his career.
Murray, currently 88th in tennis, will compete in the Miami Masters in preparation for Wimbledon.
Murray was number one in the world rankings for a total of 41 weeks in his career, but was then thrown back by injuries to his hip (today he plays with an artificial hip joint). He won 46 singles and two doubles titles.
