Tennis world association excludes Russia and Belarus – who moves up?

Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in either the women’s Billie Jean King Cup or the men’s Davis Cup. That was decided by the world tennis association. The successors have already been determined.

The world tennis association ITF has confirmed the exclusion of teams from Russia and Belarus from the team competitions because of the Russian attack on Ukraine. In the women’s Billie Jean King Cup, Australia takes the place of defending champion Russia in the finals. Belgium, who should have played Belarus in qualifiers on April 15-16, now have a bye to qualify for the finals as well. Germany has to compete in Kazakhstan in the qualification.

In the men’s Davis Cup, Serbia advances to the finals for defending champion Russia. The ITF wants to decide at a later date who will receive the Serbian wildcard that will be released as a result. Germany had qualified for the group stage with a 3-1 victory in Brazil. This will take place at four locations to be determined. The German Tennis Association has applied with Hamburg to host a group. Where the final round will take place is also not yet certain.
