The 37th edition of the America’s Cup, the most important and oldest sailing competition in the world, will take place in 2024 in Barcelona. Emirates Team New Zealand, the winning team of the last edition – which according to the rules has the right to choose the place in which to defend the title – announced it on Tuesday: “As holders (defender, in jargon) of the America’s Cup, we always feel a responsibility to grow the event, the public and sailing on a global scale. Surely the 2024 event hosted in an important city like Barcelona will allow us to give impetus to a new growth on the world sports scene »said Grant Dalton, head of the New Zealand team.
Also in 2024 the America’s Cup will be held with AC75 class boats, the so-called flying monohulls seen in 2021 in Auckland in the latest edition. Five teams will try to compete for the cup against New Zealanders: Luna Rossa (Italy), American Magic (United States), Ineos Britannia (United Kingdom) and Alinghi Red Bull Racing (Switzerland).
