Egan Bernal continues to take giant steps in his recovery. After the serious accident that almost cost him his life on January 24, the only Colombian to win a Tour de France, got back on a bicycle.
“Guess who’s back on his bike,” the 25-year-old runner wrote on his Twitter account. The message accompanies a photo in which he is seen smiling with his report from the Ineos team, and on a roller bike.
With the V for victory, Bernal expressed his emotion and pointed out: “As long as there is faith, everything is possible. And I want to tell you that when you really want something, there is NO BUT that is worth it.”
After receiving medical discharge on February 6, Bernal has exhibited his surprising progress on social networks in the absence of a report from the doctors accompanying his recovery.
“I want to return to my best version, I have faith, I don’t know why I think I can do it and I think it will be fast,” the “beetle” encouraged in a recent interview with the magazine Semana.
Bernal was on the verge of death from the multiple injuries he suffered when he collided at 62 km/h with the back of a stopped bus while training near Bogotá. He had 18 spinal, leg and hand injuries and underwent five surgeries.
After two weeks of hospitalization, the Colombian began his recovery phase and in the videos that he has released on social networks he has been seen walking slowly, pedaling an exercise bike and kicking a soccer ball.
Champion of the Tour de France in 2019 and the Giro d’Italia in 2021, neither Bernal nor his squad have anticipated a date for his return to the roads.
