The Bulldogs de Liège season can be described as magnificent, historic. After winning the Belgian Cup and the Belgian championship, they are now ready to clinch the Beneleague title.
On Sunday, they won in Heerenveen, after losing the first leg on Saturday at home. Thanks to this, they will play the last match at home this Tuesday evening. In case of victory, the Beneleague will be in the pocket.
During Saturday’s loss, only one word was on everyone’s lips: refereeing. Indeed, the latter was more than contentious and far too often biased. Rightly, the Bulldogs felt aggrieved. For the oh so important duel on Tuesday, the federal body of referees has found nothing better than to appoint… one of the same three referees as on Saturday. Enough to make the leaders of the Liège club fulminate. “During the season already, he caused us a lot of problemssays Olivier De Vriendt, the president of the Bulldogs. We had asked the League to no longer have it but obviously the message was not heard. They decide what they want, how they want. There is a cruel lack of psychology in the federal body of referees. It’s a shame before this beautiful hockey party.”
Play this beautiful?
On the side of the management of Liège, we admit to having hesitated to boycott the match of this Tuesday. “When we learned the news, it was out of the question for us to play. In the end, we decided to maintain the match for the players, the staff and all the people who follow us. It is obvious that at the psychological level , it would have been better to approach this final more calmly. But hey, we are going to play it and win it, this final, to show that we are stronger than anything.”
