The Final Four of the Euroleague, which was to be held in Berlin, was relocated to Belgrade on Friday due to the health measures in force in the German capital deemed restrictive by the most prestigious European basketball competition between clubs.
“This decision has been taken with the aim of giving Euroleague supporters the possibility of attending the event on site while guaranteeing players access to the city”said the organizers of the competition in a press release.
“The sanitary measures in Germany, if extended, would not allow a large number of supporters to attend the Final Four and should even prevent some players from participating”, they justify. Germany still asks people wishing to enter its territory to present complete vaccinations and/or to quarantine for 10 to 14 days depending on their country of origin.
It is therefore at the Stark Arena (15,000 seats) in Belgrade that the semi-finals of the Euroleague will be played on May 19, then the final and the match for third place on May 21.
The Final Four returns to the Serbian capital, four years after Real Madrid won their tenth title against Fenerbahçe.
