The great Traoré bows out

This Tuesday morning at dawn, the day after his 37th spring, Ali Traoré posted a message through his Twitter account announcing his retirement. A book spanning twenty years of career for this pivot appreciated everywhere he went. At Asvel first of all where he started before his majority but for a starving playing time. He then left Villeurbanne in 2002, the first of his countless transfers, to harden up at Nanterre, particularly at the lower level. All in all, he has worn the jersey of 17 different clubs, including seven abroad.

This globetrotter has successively exported his talents to Virtus Roma (Italy), Lokomotiv Kuban (Russia), Red Star Belgrade (Serbia), Alba Berlin (Germany), Amchit Club (Lebanon), Estudiantes (Spain) and Byblos (Lebanon). In France, Ali Traoré had his greatest joys with Asvel. In the Rhône, he won two French championship titles in two very distinct periods of his life, in 2002 then in 2009. The year following his second coronation, he won the Coupe des As and was also rewarded as staff, being awarded the honorary title of Pro A MVP (2010).

A great man of tricolor basketball

With Monaco he gleaned a Leaders Cup in 2018. A trophy that came to further expand his rich record of two additional Leaders Cups with Strasbourg (2015 and 2019). In Alsace he also raised the Coup de France (2015) under the orders of Vincent Collet who directed him to the SIG as well as to the French team. Under the blue tunic, the tall colossus of 2m08 has compiled 336 points in 48 selections, the culmination of which remains the final of the Euro lost in 2011 in Lithuania against the greater Spain of Juan Carlos Navarro and Serge Ibaka. Antibes player in Pro B until last season, this great man of tricolor basketball decided on Tuesday to bow out but he will not disappear from the landscape. As a consultant, he comments on Monaco matches for the club’s channel.
