The Russian Medvedev began his ecumenical leadership | Cuyo’s diary

Even though last week with the defeat suffered by the Serbian Novak Djokovic, in Dubai, it was already known that the Russian Daniil Medvedev would become the new number 1 in the world in the ATP ranking, until yesterday, when the ranking was updated it wasn’t official.

The 26-year-old Muscovite, winner of 13 titles, including the 2013 US Open, thus closed the reign of the Big 4 (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Djokovic and Andy Murray), who alternated in first place since 2004.

Medvedev has yet to win a tournament this year (he was a semi-finalist at the Australian Open and the ATP 500 in Acapulco) but he benefited from Djokovic’s special season, who did not play in Melbourne and did not advance to the Dubai quarterfinals.

The Serbian is now second in the ranking, followed by the German Alexander Zverev and Nadal, who rose to fourth place at the expense of the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Argentine tennis players among the top 100 are: Diego Schwartzman (34); Federico Delbonis (36), Sebastian Báez (62), Federico Coria (69), Francisco Cerúndolo (76), Facundo Bagnis (83) and Guido Pella (100).
