Negotiations between the owners of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) continue without find a consensus and as a consequence two more series have been canceled for the start of the season. This was announced by league commissioner Robert Manfred.
“Due to the logistical realities of our schedule, two other series will be removed calendar, which means Opening Day is postponed until April 14,” he said in a statement.
Initially the 2022 season was budgeted to start on March 31st, however, the lack of an agreement in the new collective labor contract has prevented it, moving the opening day until April 14.
Manfred assured that the last proposals included the demands of the MLBPA, but they failed in the attempt.

“In a last-ditch effort to preserve the 162-game season, we have made good faith proposals this week that address the specific concerns expressed by the MLBPA and would have allowed players return to the field immediately. Unfortunately, after our second session of negotiations we still do not have an agreement,” he said.
The commissioner reiterated that “we have the utmost respect for our players and we hope that in the end they will choose to accept the fair agreement that has been offered to them.”
Meanwhile, the Major League Players Association also issued a statement in which they assure that they will continue looking for a fair contract for all.
“Players want to play, and we look forward to getting back on the field for the best fans in the world. Finalizing a fair contract for all players remains our highest priority, and we will continue negotiations to that end.”
They were also shown in disagreement over the decision to cancel more series.
The decision of the owners to cancel more games is totally unnecessary. After submitting a full package of proposals to the league this afternoon, players have yet to receive a response.
