The war in Ukraine unites the governing bodies of tennis: 700,000 dollars in donations announced

As too rarely, tennis speaks with one voice. Faced with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the governing bodies of the little yellow ball decided to engage together. Through a statement and campaign titled “Tennis Plays For Peace”, the ATP, WTA, ITF and the four Grand Slam tournaments announced their support for the humanitarian efforts currently on the ground. The seven governing bodies thus announced on Tuesday financial aid of up to 100,000 dollars each (about 91,000 euros), or 700,000 dollars in all (about 637,000 euros).

These donations were sent to the Global Giving’s Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. And the tennis authorities immediately launched a fundraising campaign with fans and the tennis community, via the same organization. To illustrate this initiative, a video with the voices of Ukrainians Elina Svitolina and Sergiy Stakhovsky (who decided to join the reserve army in his country) was posted on social networks.

Other initiatives should be announced in the coming weeks, announced the ATP, the WTA, the ITF and the four Grand Slam tournaments to conclude their press release. It seems that the call of Elina Svitolina ten days ago has therefore been heard by the tennis family.
